New Favorite?? Nudey Tuesday: Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in "Spiced Cream" (Review & Swatches)

I've been wanting Shisedo's (BE109) Spice Cream ($25) since I reviewed Baby, which was a pretty nude but not what I was looking for. It was too "natural" looking for my taste and I wanted more of a statement nude but one that was still wearable and wouldn't make me look like a corpse. I prayed and hoped that this would be the One!

The Packaging: I adored the packaging of Shiseido's Perfect Rouge lipsticks when I first reviewed baby and still love it to this day. It's so different from my other rounded and squared lipsticks and is easy to spot in my drawer. The tube is squarish but the sides are rounded inwards -creating that really cool shape. The color of the tube is a pretty blackish silver with a purple tint. Love!
The only gripe I have (and I didn't notice this before) but I wish the color name was listed on the tube. The box and sticker on the bottom of the tube only state the color code, "BE109." It should say "Spiced Cream" as well to make it easier for customers because numbers and letters are hard to memorize. This is the reason I don't like shopping for these in person. I've looked at them at the Nordstrom counter on several occasions but always passed them up because I had no freaking idea what the name of each color was!! To make matters worse, the makeu counter ladies never knew either. Shopping online was easier because I got to see the names but then again, I wasn't able to swatch.
The Product: Like Baby, Spiced cream is incredibly moisturizing. You don't even need a lip balm as this pretty much acts as a balm and lipstick in one. (I used a balm this time around because my lips have been super dry lately.) I loved that there was none of that flaking and "crustiness" that many other lipsticks (especially nudes/pales) have so often caused. The lipstick feels incredible on my lips and is light and comfortable. The lipstick glides on smoothly with no issues. As I mentioned before, Shu lipsticks are a bit glossy and semi sheer with one swipe but are buildable so that the end result is some gorgeous, pigmented lip color. These are very easy to work with and go on evenly. This lipstick also lasted long and stayed on perfectly (until I snacked) -I can't give you the exact amount of hours it lasted. It was still going strong at the 4 hour mark but I needed to eat!
The Color: I love Spiced Cream. The color is a light to medium nude beige (think a more wearable MAC Myth) with just a touch of pink. This does not make me look "dead" whatsoever yet it still has the "oooomph" factor as it's not just a "natural nude." I imagine that this could work well for most skin tones.

Overall: I'm in love! This is the most perfect nude out of all the lipsticks I currently own formula and color wise. The only thing that could make the actual lipstick better would be more moisture but I'm totally just dreaming when I say that. This packs plenty of moisture, has amazing color, is nice and buildable, and doesn't make my lips look crusty and dry like other nude lippies tend to do. I know the lipstick is kind of pricey at $25 but I think it's worth it. Shiseido's lipsticks are cheaper than YSL Rouge Voluptes, Givenchy, and Dior and I feel that they are better than those designer brands (they're still very good though.) I also think they definitely top the "cheaper" lipsticks at Sephora like LORAC and Urban Decay so I feel that those few extra bucks are worth it. For the price you pay, the product is excellent. My only major complaint is that the color names aren't listed on the boxes or tubes -which makes it difficult to shop. Also wish they had more pastels and pale pinks. Btw, Sephora doesn't offer a huge selection online so I suggest Nordstrom.
I think I'm going to start "grading reviews".. I used to with my very first reviews.. so I give this a solid A. This grading is based on packaging, formula, quality, and value.
P.S. I don't know what on earth that weird dot is on the last lip swatch (left side)..!

  1. Looks like a nice nude on you. I agree with the naming convention. It's so much easier to remember a name compared to a bunch of numbers.

  4. @ naturalNchicmakeup.. Thanks! Love the nude and they so need to start putting the names on their products. It's so hard to remember the whole number and letters thing.

@ Val.. I LOVEEE this lipstick. And all Shiseido products I have (not many) or swatched have always been so nice. The downside is Sephora only sells Shiseido online so check Nordstrom (they carry the line in pretty much all their stores that I've been to.) Definitely check it out. They're a bit pricey but at least the quality justifies the high price unlike other super crazy expensive brands!!

@ Jen.. Thanks! Glad you liked. =)

  6. I absolutely adore this color! Definitely check it out. I also recommend "Baby (BE208)" which is also gorgeous ..but more "natural" which wasn't for me. Love Shiseido lippies so far. =)
