All About Gloss: My All-Time Faves!!

Today I thought I'd share with you my favorite lip glosses. I put them in 2 categories: "Ultimate Faves" and "Next in Line" meaning they're not by absolute favorites but they come pretty darn close.. here's the list!

The Ultimate Faves..
Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss, NARS Lip Gloss, LORAC Multiplex 3D Lip Gloss, Too Faced Mirror Mirror Gloss
Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss $18- This was the first "real" favorite gloss that I ever owned. I really think it's the perfect "all around" gloss since it comes in shimmers/nonshimmers and 3 different finishes (the following are my own descriptions for each finish. Check out Sephora's too for more info):
1. Sheer Color- Sheer with just a tint of color. Comes with a brush applicator.
2. True Color- The color you see in the tube is what you get on your lips. It's fairly vibrant and pigmented. Comes with a doe foot applicator.
3. Full Color- Ultra pigmented and longlasting (more so than others 2 finishes.) Comes with doe foot applicator.
In short, the major reasons why I like the gloss are because it's moisturizing, pretty long lasting, nonsticky, pigmented (except for the sheer color), and doesn't sink into my lip lines. I don't need a lip balm to wear this gloss. The texture is inbetween thin and thick –perfect. Also, it comes in tons of colors. I've owned several throughout the years but my favorite is Pout, which is a light bubblegum pink. I'd also recommend Aura –it works beautifully for all skintones. For some swatches of Smashbox Lip Enhancing Glosses, go here.
NARS Lip Gloss $24- I think this is either a gloss people will love or hate. I really love it because it's moisturizing, long lasting, and pigmented. It's got a sort of thick, tacky texture though and it's definitely sticky but not overly sticky –just sticky enough to bind to the lips. You might be put off by the smell as it does smell like crayons and tastes a bit like them too. The taste goes away after awhile so no need to fret! My favorite shade is Harlow (no longer available at Sephora!! Booo.)
LORAC Multiplex 3D Lip Gloss $22- I've been raving about this gloss since I first bought it. This is the most moisturizing gloss I've ever owned and I have just too many positive things to say. In short, the gloss is glittery (but not gritty), smooth, moisturizing, pigmented (BUT Polished and Vivid are on the sheerer side), longlasting, and smells nice. See the 14 reasons why I love it here. Everyone needs to own this. I currently own 3D and Polished –I have/had Vivid and Cliché too but lost them! Still upset about that. =( Anyways, check out swatches of all LORAC Multiplex 3D shades here.
Too Faced Mirror Mirror Lip Gloss $16- To me, this is the most fuss-free of the bunch. It's your basic clear gloss in cute, squeeze tube packaging. The gloss is very sheer (practically clear on the lips), smells amazing (like fruity candy), super moisturizing, slightly sticky, smooth, and has a sort of thick texture. I like to wear this alone or over a lipstick. I can't emphasize on how amazing this smells and tastes –pure deliciousness. I only own one one shade –Don't Hate Me, since these all look practically the same on the lips.

Next in Line..
Revlon Super Lustrous Gloss, Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss, Fresh Sugar Lip Gloss
Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss $6.99- This stuff is fantastic for the low price you pay. They're the best drugstore glosses I've ever stumbled upon. They are decently moisturizing and don't dry out your lips (maintain your lips' moisture), slightly sticky (not in an overly annoying way), pigmented, smooth, long lasting, and decently pigmented. I own 4 shades from the Daydreamer Collection –click here for swatches.
Urban Decay Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss $19- These have the cheekiest, most fun packaging ever. You get a boy from both his front and back view on your cap and you have the choice to undress him or keep him fully clothed. The gloss itself is moisturizing, nonsticky, long lasting, applies effortlessly, and leaves a shiny finish. I only have one shade, in Kirk, and it's semi-pigmented but I can't speak for other other brighter and darker colors. When you rub the tube, it supposedly attracts men (and women maybe?) but I'm not sure if it works –my boyfriend likes the gloss though so maybe! There's one major downside though and that's the smell. It may not bother others but I think it smells like moldy rotten sugar or some sort of artificial, expired dessert. Click here for swatches of Kirk.
Fresh Sugar Lip Gloss $18- I really like this gloss and like the Too Faced Mirror Mirror Gloss, it's super fuss-free. It's moisturizing and smooth but on the sheerer side. (I only own the shade Sugar Baby so I'm not sure about the other colors.) The best part is the smell and taste –like lemon candy. I'm always tempted to eat it off my lips after applying!

Most Hated Glosses??
There are a handful of glosses I absolutely hate. A couple that I can think of off the top of my head are Too Faced Girls Dig Pearls (gritty and goes on extremely unevenly), Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglazes (drying, just plain gross), and  several others others but I can't quite remember right now. =P

Now it's your turn. What are your favorites? Least favorites? Let me know! I'd love some recommendations too.

  1. Love the post! Your pics are Just pure glossy goodness, lol! I love it.
Now, for my faves...here we go:

-MAC Steal My Heart Lipglass: A sheer, rasberry pink shade that looks so pretty on! Too bad it's LE, but it's the only time I seem to pick up any lipglasses is when they come out with LE collections, I don't own any permanent lipglass shades!

-MAC Love Nectar Lusteglass: Such a pretty shade. It's a peachy pink, with a pearlized gold finish. I've gone through 2 tubes of this...

-Revlon Life's A Peach Super Lustrous: These lip glosses are great, and this is my fave shade so far. I still am on the hunt for those LE shades you have but I've had no luck!

-MAC Baby Sparks Dazzleglass: I love paring this over nude shades like MAC'S Hue, Revlon's Soft Nude...it looks super sexy for a night out.

-Smashbox Quench Moisture Rich Lip Gloss: I don't know if you can buy this on its own, but I got mine from a set I got at Sephora. It's a pretty coraly pink shade that is perfect for summer!

-C.O. Bigelow Menthal lip shines: I have bought these over and over, and I will continue to because these are so nice. This is my go to clear gloss.

Hhmm, oddly enough I can't think of any lip glosses that I hate...I'll have to look over my stash and see if I can find any : )

  2. Thanks for this post! I've been meaning to do a fav lippies post too but I keep forgetting XD I can't wait to get my hands on more of those Revlon glosses though. I have Life's a Peach and I looove it. That's pretty much my go-to lippie these days. I hear a lot of good things about the Smashbox lippies, I'll have to check those out!

For my favs, I really like YSL Golden Gloss & Gloss Pur. I have Golden Peony and Pure Rose and they're both great. The Gloss Pur is so pigmented and the Golden gloss has gorgeous shimmers. Both are very smooth and shiny. The only downside is the price and the lasting power is average.

I also like Clinique's Long last Glosswear in Air Kiss. It's sticky but the shine and staying power is phenomenal.

Aaand another of my favs is NYX Round lipgloss! Not sticky at all and lasts decently long. They're smooth, opaque, and shiny. Plus, they're affordable and there's so many shades to choose from. My fav is Whipped.

Strangely, I got a few recommendations for MAC's Love Nectar Lustreglass, but I just got it and I didn't fall in love w/ it like I expected :( It basically shows up clear on my lips and doesn't layer as good as other lippies I've tried, and lasting power sucks :(

Worst gloss I've come across in awhile is ELF's 2 in 1 conditioning gloss. It's super hard to get the color and clear gloss to come out at the same time, and even if you do, it's so sheer it's basically clear. And the stickyness is just terrible!!!

  3. @ Val.. Great list!

That's so funny because I've always bought lipglass when it's LE too. MAC really knock em out with fabulous LE shades. I used to have Baby Sparks but I swapped it for some LE MAC lipsticks. I liked it but for some reason, it didn't look pretty on ME but looked so lovely on other people. And I always hear people talk about Love Nectar -it must be some sort of hidden gem!

I want to try a few of the permanent Revlon Super Lustrous shades but I'm waiting for them to go on sale. I definitely try Life's a Peach when it does but I NEED to use up the glosses I have before I go buying more. =P

Haven't tried the Quench Moisture Gloss but I love Smashbox glosses in general. So smooth and moisturizing. =)

Haven't tried the C.O. Bigelow Menthal Lip Shines but I always hear positive reviews! Strangely enough, I ALWAYS ALWAYS forget to pick it up. I need to start making a list.

  4. @ e.motion in motion.. You should definitely do a "fave lippies" post. =) I love reading them.

I've never tried the YSL glosses but I have tried the lipsticks. You're right, they're super pricey but the colors are gorgeous.

I've never tried Clinique glossees but I'd like to now since you mentioned the awesome staying power. I can't stand glosses that fade away too quickly.

Ooooh I've really been wanting to try the NYX Round Glosses. They come in such pretty shades and are so cheap!!

Aww.. sorry Love Nectar didn't work for you. I think I'll swatch it instore and check out the color. Some shades don't show up on my lips either and I don't need another clear gloss.

EWW! ELF Gloss. I tried one (can't remember which) but it was terrible as well! They have some cool products but some are just plain icky.

  5. I wish I can say the same about NARS lipglosses. They're so dang sticky! My favorites would have to be Chanel Glossimers/Aqualumieres. I also like MAC Creamsheens. Least favorite are Clinique/Estee Lauder/Lancome Juicy Tubes..basically anything sticky.

  6. Yea I know NARS glosses are too sticky for some -but I love love LOVE how moisturizing they are for me. Anything moisturizing is a must for me.

I think you've mentioned Chanel glosses before. I definitely have to try them sometime!

I don't lke Juicy Tubes much either -sticky and too sheer! =P
