$1 Illuminators? E.L.F. Shimmering Facial Whip Review, Swatches, Photos

Repurchase: No
Price: $1.00 (0.34 oz)
Product: 17.5/25
Packaging: 4/5
Value: 10/10
Overall Grade: C+

I bought these E.L.F. Shimmery Facial Whips during a 50% E.L.F. sale a while back and have been lagging on reviewing these for 2 reasons. One being I'm just totally behind on reviews (I buy more than I can review) and two being the fact that their customer service is horrible. I just really didn't want to give them free advertising but I figured what the hey? I bought all these products and I might as well at least give them a try.

The Packaging: The Facial Whips are packaged in clear, plastic squeeze tubes with white lids. The tubes are very simple and only state the product name and its ingredients on the back. The colors are listed on silver stickers on the top of the lids. I really like that the tubes have small, tapered tips. This provides for a clean, precise application.

Product Description & Directions
Ingredients
The Product: I noticed that like my MAC Pro Lipmixes, the product can get really runny in the tube. You have to try and shake it as much as possible if this happens or it will come out watery (this happened to Citrus and Spotlight.) Otherwise, the product should have a thicker, creamy consistency.

You can use these as a blush for very sheer, shimmery color or as a base for your blush. I find that these do add a little color and help enhance other blushes but not by much. They can also be used as a highlighter for on the cheekbones, browbones , or any other places you'd want to highlight. I've read that some people use these as eyeshadows but they're honestly so sheer that I wouldn't recommend them for that purpose.

The Facial Whip does not irritate my skin so I guess that's a plus. It also has a sweet orange scent -like artificially flavored orange candy. As for lasting ability, I honestly can't tell. This stuff is already so sheer that I can't tell when it fades.

The Color: All shades contain shimmer.

1. Citrus-Warm mauve with golden shimmer
2. Golden Peach- Golden peach with gold shimmer.
3. Pink Lemonade- Pretty pink with silver shimmer.
4. Spotlight- White with silver shimmer.
5. Toasted- Dusty mauve with frosty silver shimmer.

Overall: I'm glad that I got these on sale for 50 cents each (and Citrus was free) because spending any more than that would've been a waste. I honestly don't see much use in these. You can possibly mix them with your moisturizer for a glow to your entire face but it wouldn't matter what color you use -they all end up being so sheer (when blended) that they look nearly identical. The second best way (IMO) to use it is as a highlighter but I really prefer my other highlighters 10x more as they're more pigmented.

The only reason this product got a C+ was because the packaging was pretty good (small and convenient) and the value was great. The product itself was a C-/D+ -having better pigmentation would've really boosted the grade.

Where To Buy: E.L.F., Target

  2. I was wondered about these, but I'm glad you reviewed them. Too bad you had to deal with their customer service :/ I hate it when they can't be accomodating. After all, you spent money... they should at least understand that.

I hope you have luck finding the Sonia Kashuk brushes. I don't believe they are in high demand since the sale was not advertised. Also, there was 1 left when I went but I went in the evening. They probably are trying to get rid of the "limited" edition sets as I speak :)

  3. @ Renay Shanel.. I hope you have better luck with these than I did!

@ Rainy Days and Lattes.. I agree! Customer service is a MUST for me -bad service is just such a turn off.

I read on Target's product page that these are available online but not in stores. I'm wondering if maybe they priced yours at $5 because they didn't have any others to sell? Sometimes they do that when they only have one of something. I'm still crossing my fingers though. I called Target a few times today to ask but they didn't pick up!! Talk about bad service LOL.

  4. @ Rainy Days and Lattes.. I just checked again!! They ARE selling for around $5 at the stores by me but they're all sold out. I checked pretty much every store in the Bay Area.

  5. I agree, never really saw the purpose of these.

  6. So true. They need to be more pigmented to really DO anything.

  7. ahhh I hate sheer makeup! whats the point of putting sher stuff on (other than lip gloss) when you can't even see them, might as well not and perhaps save your pores from being clogged!

  8. LOL! I'm so with you on that. Funny you mentioned it though because I just remember reading somewhere on the ELF packaging (for some reason the back of some of the packaging was different -probably and older version) that said, "Hypoallergenic, won't clog pores." Who knows though..

  9. Aughh I hate these! Sticky and overly shimmery and the smell is so strong! >_<

  10. I wasn't too fond of them either. =P They didn't smell super strong to me but that's probably because I've had a stuffy nose for over a week. I don't like the smell though.. It's a little sickly sweet to me.

  12. I truly adored perusing your web journal. It was exceptionally well created and simple to understand. Not at all like extra blogs I have perused which are truly not that great. I moreover found your posts exceptionally curiously. In reality, after perusing. Acne scar treatment near me
